Our Store number is (859) 371-3900 Description: Listed is the general officer's set of General John Archer Elmore. General Elmore was with General MacArthur during the retaking of Manila during WWII. The 1911 was issued to Gen. Elmore upon graduating from West Point in 1924. This pistol is in Very Good condition. It has the diamond grips, period PH marked barrel, proper two tone magazine and was made by Colt late in 1917 or early 1918. The Colt 1908 .380 Automatic was issued to Gen. Elmore, along with 2 leather holsters, the 1911 General Officers holster being the rarest, and belt, when he was promoted to Brigadier General. It was shipped to him from Colt on June 5, 1945. This pistols are in Very Good condition. The leather holsters and belt are in very good shape and are clean and supple with minor crazing scattered about. This collection also comes with a binder containing a Colt letter for the Model 1908 Hammerless Pocket Automatic Pistol. The binder also contains information on the General during his career, and the family history dating back to the The American Revolution. His Great Grandfather, John Archer Elmore, was a veteran of the American revolution and had a county in Alabama Named after him. His Grandfather was the Treasurer of the Confederacy. The Elmore family was very distinguished throughout American History. They were involved in the American revolution, The war of 1812, The Mexican American war, the Civil War, WWII, and Korea. Gen. John Archer Elmore was born on December 29, 1902. Graduated from West Point in 1924. Was assigned to the 19th Infantry from 1926-1929. Instructor at the Infantry School in 1930. Served with the 15th Infantry in China from 1936-1938. Was Aide to Brigadier Gen. Charles P. Hall in 1942. Operations Officer in the 93rd Infantry Division in 1942. Assistant Chief of staff, then Chief Of Staff of XI Corps November 1942-February 1946. Promoted Brigadier General in January 1945. After the war he was reverted to the rank of Colonel in March 1946. This was SOP after the war for battle field promotions. Assignments after the war was Assitant Division Commander of 47th Infantry, then 1st Infantry Division 1954-1955. He retired in 1956.
