![]() Browning Superposed 1964 12ga Pointer Grade Guns International #: 102704967 Seller's Inventory #: 64GrIII Category: Browning Belgium Shotguns - O/U Superposed - Browning Belgium Shotguns - O/U Superposed Pointer Seller's Information When emailing or calling sellers direct, please mention that you saw their listing on GunsInternational.com Seller: Anatidae Company: Private Seller Member Since: 9/4/15 State: Mississippi Country: United States Number of Active Listings: 4 Total Number of Listings: 38 Seller: Private Seller Return Policy: 3 day inspection and return policy on used guns. Payment Types Accepted: PayPal (for non-gun only), Certified check or Money Order Description: ---------- SOLD 8/28/24 - Interestigly- enough, the buyer (a long-time BrowninG afficionado and a very respectful younger-generation collector) also bought my listing #102704261 (1966 FN custom D4-style engraved and Exhibition grade wood in 32" Broadway) at the same time. Thank You, Tom - and Congratulations. ---------- Manufactured in 1964. All-original 'used' 12ga 30” Broadway rib F/M (.038”/.019”) Signed both sides 'R.Risack'. 1-1/2” x 1-3/4" x 14-3/8” LOP to original Browning trap pad. 8Lbs. 4oz. Exceptional wood figure and engraving! Wood finish evidences minimal crazing on the right-side receiver tab of the butt stock (typical of this era) which also authenticates originality of the finishes. Metal finishes are original. The only possible detractors I am aware of are: 1) Small hairline crack in the right receiver 'tab' of the butt stock (photo 15) – I elected NOT to have it repaired, to retain the original wood finish. I decided if it spread, I could always have it repaired/re-finished but it has held-up over the 10 years it has been in my possession. 2) One small area of 'Renaissancing' in the French gray finish, right side / top of standing breech (photo 14) also, no change in 10 years. These are factored into the price. Action is still very tight. Bores are excellent. Serial number 229xx S4. NOTE: a case is not included but I can make one available for additional cost. Photos are intended to convey general condition of wood and metal finishes, noting the most obvious blemishes. Regarding Inquiries: As a collector & researcher (and 'shooter') of the Superposed, I understand the importance of verifying as many details as possible. I have attempted to represent my items accurately and price them fairly given my current knowledge of FN/BrowninG Superposed production history and details, with a keen recognition and appreciation for the ‘factory’ standards of quality in all aspects. Collectors know that the actual condition/details can only be confirmed, (and can either agree or disagree with the sellers’ valuation), via personal inspection – so it is pointless to waste time (buyer’s and seller’s) making a counter-offer or an attempt to negotiate without benefit of in-person review. Simply put, under NO circumstances will I entertain lower offers. This piece is purposely-priced to sell, yet to a relativley-limited market - Superposed collectors and skilled shooters who understand and appreciate Broadway ribbed 'specialty' guns. The primary concept behind the wide rib was to prevent 'canting' of the gun and promote a stronger visual reference to the horizontal plane and target flight. They are no less desirable today than when they were introduced in 1960 - there's just a more limited buyer's pool largely influenced by 'stigma' created by people who've never shot a Broadway ribbed gun and don't understand its benefit - or by sellers more focused on turning money, quickly. The FN Parcours models featured 12mm and 15mm Broadway-style ribs and were exceedingly popular well into the late 80's. They are identical in all aspects except for the different widths. Some of the 725's today use the same 12mm wide Broadway-style rib. There's no 'stigma' because this rib style has proven very popular in the US and abroad. The 'stigma' has more recently been perpetuated and promoted in a Pointer ad by a new dealer claiming to be passionate and knowledgeable about vintage firearms, pointing-out that his item has a "Non-Broadway" rib. So, are Broadway ribbed Superposed somehow NOT vintage firearms?....or is it just that this dealer isn't trying to sell one right now? Why promote what an item is NOT, other than to compare it with higher-condition 'all-original' examples with original wood finishes, openly sabotaging other listings in an attempt to justify a "Non-realistic" asking price for an example showing obvious oxidation in the bottom of the engraving cuts on the whole left side game scene and new 'scuff & spray' urethane finishes with mealy checkering? "Non-disclosure" could be considered a shady a form of dishonesty. Interestingly (since that Pointer listing) the same seller listed an FN #205 parcours model that has a 12mm Broadway rib, yet instead of calling it what it is (a Broadway rib), skirts-around that by calling a 'target rib', and even congers-up a new term of "semi-wide" ventilated rib. Intentional deceipt to suit varying purposes is cleary a form of dishonesty. So, Spare the warnings about dishonest sellers - they'll 'market' their items and run their scams how they also choose, whether blatantly bad at being dishonest or just really too ignorant to be in the gun business. And over time, once perceived as irreputable (or delusional), it will be impossible to convince truly knowledgeable and self-respecting buyers, otherwise. I don't price items high so I can come-down to a comfort level (with price and/or familiarity with what's being offered) of buyers lacking knowledge or confidence at this stage in their collecting career, or to make egotists feel 'good' about getting the better of someone else. Sorry, but I neither have time for indecision nor tolerance for 'gamesmanship'. I know what I'm offering and am confident in that knowledge and reasonable valuation (i.e., artistic, aesthetic, and historical value). I'm not the least concerned with what 'market' anyone else plays (or thinks they have figured-out) and therefore am not interested in whatever monetary values or re-sale potential other buyers base their 'business plan' on. I've made the buying process pretty simple - if you want it - this is THE price - send me a check and FFL - Done deal - it's yours. If you don't like the item, just send it back. Those who are 'watching', I genuinely appreciate your interest although I'm never certain what is being 'watched' (aside from hopes of a price reduction) other than its eventual disappearance to another buyer. If this were an auktion, you would have to compete for it with no in-person inspection (unless you are in attendance), and more importantly, if buying remotely, there are no returns. So I've honestly (and maybe, stupidly) disclosed the known OR possible detractors, you know the price required to be successful and you have inspection and return privileges with this listing. The best deals are when both parties reach agreement and are satisfied with the outcome. If you don't know your details and history, it's unfortunate because you have to wade through all the crap and misinformation on the market to find an honest gun at a reasonable value. So, I can relate with your frustration - the market is saturated with over-priced crap usually marketed as something it is NOT - I 'get-it'. It is just as difficult to sell an honest gun for a reasonable value. Not all Pointer Grades are alike. 'Original' and exceptional Y-tang collector-quality Pointer examples like this are highly sought-after and will hold or increase in value. As evidenced by this 'tainted' market, they have been increasingly difficult to find and acquire at a reasonable valuation.
