Description:
This is a nice 1911 Colt Black Army that shipped out in September 1918. It is serialized within the range of 600 pistols shipped to the USMC Depot in Philadelphia PA. The serial number assigned to this pistol is not specifically assigned to the USMC, but it is commonly believed the Marine Corps received pistols from the Army outside of the assigned serial ranges. This is due to the very limited number of guns in the USMC serial ranges. R.F. Sedgley's shop was located near the Marine Corps Depot in Philadelphia and he is known to have performed maintanence on Marine Corps firearms and numerous other US Military firearms. The Sedgley stamp is located on the trigger guard and shown in photo #4. For additional information, see the Clawson large reference book (page 366), Clawson Guide (3rd edition - page 99), and Meadows Volume 1 (page 223). This pistol has an Augusta Arsenal maintenance stamp, which is common. The replacement High Standard barrel has a very good shiny bore and the magazine is a WW2 era of Colt mfg. The barrel and magazine were commonly replaced during routine maintenance. This pistol retains at least 60% blue and was not parkerized during the maintenance process. The grips are original WWI Colt. This is a really nice WWI era 1911 with some interesting history. I am an FFL dealer and this pistol must ship to your FFL dealer. Price reflects 3% cash discount.
