Description:
This rifle is one of less than 300 breech loading percussion long guns manufactured by W.W. Marston of New York City, circa mid-1850s. Marston is best known for his pepperboxes, single and multi-barreled percussion and cartridge handguns. This is a unique example of an already rare gun featuring engravings and craftsmanship to catch anyone's eye. The left side of the receiver is marked "Wm W. MARSTON's/PATENT/NEW YORK/1850" This rifle is extremely RARE and was made in the mid 1850s. This rifle in particular is in great shape givin its age and history the metal has developed a nice patina and only show minor signs of wear and general handling givin it was made in the mid 1800s. This rifle is not in working order as the lever to open the breach does not fully extend, a gunsmith may be able to restore it to its functioning condition, however the hammer and trigger function as they should, locking in the full and half cock positions and the trigger having a crisp clean break. W. W. Marston has 12 different listings in the Flayderman book index. He manufactured 1861 Percussion muskets for the U.S. Government as well as many percussion pepperbox revolvers and single shot pistols. This is a very unique and rare rifle from American history, as stated above less than 300 of the rifles were manufactured in the mid 1800's. This would make an amazing addition to any collection especially if you are looking for american made antiques. Don't miss the opportunity to make this piece of history yours!!
