This is a WWII M1 Carbine made by Inland Division of General Motors. This rifle was bought from CMP and authenticity certificate is included. The receiver was made by SG and transferred to Inland for their manufacturing. SG is stamped on the front left of the receiver with the wide receiver tang. The barrel is marked INLAND MFG DIV / GENERAL MOTORS / 12-43. According to various collector documents this was likely made in early 1944.
The stock seems to be original with the cross cannon cartouche on right side of stock butt, the P proof stamp by grip, and OI in the oil sling well. It does have various dings and scratches, but the finish is still solid and likely original. The handguard is marked PJ and that represents a wartime replacement. The stock has a rebuild mark (AAU) on left side of stock between the trigger housing and rear sight. AAU was the Augusta Arsenal. With the rebuild the rear sight was updated , the push button safety replaced with flip safety. And the front swivel with the bayonet lug added. The rest of the parts seem like correct Inland parts for build time.
