This was Colt’s entry into the pistol caliber rifle and carbine market, which was absolutely dominated by Winchester at this time.  Pistol caliber rifles were instrumental in the hands of those settling the West, as they were able to carry one type of ammunition to feed both their long gun and their sidearm. It also enabled a rifle to be stoked with the maximum number of cartridges, sacrificing power for capacity, useful when outnumbered at close range.  The Colt Lightning was fairly successful, but never approached the numbers that Winchester’s lever actions were able to achieve. This example is chambered in .22 rimfire. The overall condition is fine. All original finish. The action is excellent and the bore is very fine: bright with mildly worn rifling.  All items are also available for sale in our brick & mortar store and are subject to prior sale. Shipping We ship firearms via UPS and USPS. They must be sent to an FFL. We provide tracking numbers with all of our transactions. Legal Policy We can only ship items to areas in which they are legal. If you live in a more restrictive area, please check your local laws before or buying. We are, for the most part, willing to ship to the 50 states as long as it's legal. We may require proof of legality before proceeding with a transaction that is exempt from a normal law.
