Extremely rare Colt 1849 5" Donut scroll engraved Pocket Revolver with gold plated backstrap and trigger guard. This revolver, SN 20415, was manufactured in same time frame as the 1851 Navy SN 5605 found on Pg 60 of Colt's Book of Engraving Vol I which also has a gold plated backstrap and trigger guard. The engraving shows a Federal Shield on Trigger Guard. The shield is considered by many to be an indicator of engraving by Thomas Barlowe.
Barrel retains 90% blue with some with some flaking. Cylinder blue is muted with 100% scene visible. Engraving is crisp throughout. Burl grips retain all of original finish with two slight flaws on up edge of both sides. Gold plating near 100%
This revolver shows little or no use with all flaws noted from age and storage.
Pocket comes cased in an excellent Patterson style coffin case with fine complete set of accessories.
