An Early & Scarce Civil War Model 1816 Conversion Of A Springfield Flintlock Musket dated 1839 With Its Original Bayonet In Fine Plus Untouched Condition That Was Found Hanging On A Wall In An Old Maryland Home. All original and complete. The musket has fine plus metal, markings, and edges throughout. The lock is clearly marked in front of the hammer with a small "Eagle & Shield/US" and behind the hammer "SPRING/FIELD/1839". The barrel is marked with the correct "P/Eagle/V" and is also dated 1839 on the tang. The top of the butt plate is marked "U.S." All of the metal on the musket has an untouched smokey golden brown natural patina on it. The wood on the musket is excellent throughout with crisp edges on it. It has U.S. inspecors marked on the backside of the wood opposite the lock. There is a large "D/58" stamped on top of the wood in front of the butt plate which are most likely regimental markings. It has an excellent bore and a very tight action in it. The original 1816 bayonet is marked "UC/SC" on it. This Is A Very Fine Example Of An All Original Civil Model 1816 Conversion Of A Springfield Springfield Musket dated 1839 With Its original Bayonet That Was Found Hanging On A Wall In An Old Maryland Home!
