Description:
CUSTOM .45-70 SHARPS 1878 BORCHARDT SPORTING RIFLE. A nicely done sporting conversion using a Borchardt military action and 32" round barrel Sharps Rifle Co., Bridgeport, Conn and OLD RELIABLE factory Sharps barrel. The bore is minty bright (!) and the barrel shows fine original blue with exc. markings. It is fitted with a Marble buckhorn rear sight with Marble No.2 short blade/ivory bead front sight. The action retains the Sharps markings and has been refinished in deep blue. The mechanics are exc. and tight with the small safety trigger working correctly (engages automatically when the lever is lifted and is then pulled rearward to fire). The butt stock is very dense and facny walnut with pistol grip, hard rubber stylized grip cap and hard rubber butt plate. The pistol grip is checkered nicely with additional checkering "triangles' on the panels behind the action on each side. The forend has a schnable tip with extensive checkering patterns and matching triangle pattern checkering ahead of the receiver on each side. Looks like a fancy Sporter from the original Sharps factory which went out of business in 1881! Would cost a bundle for a decent barreled actionto be fitted to fancy walnut and checkered etc.
