Description: The 1911 is perhaps the most famous semi-automatic pistol ever made, having a long and successful carrier in both military and civilian use. The 1911 and its cartridge, the famous .45 ACP, were designed by John Moses Browning to fulfill a requirement by the U.S. Army for a new service pistol which would also become the first semi-automatic to be officially adopted by the U.S. Army, replacing the M1909 revolver in .45 Colt in service. The 1911 has proved to be one of the most reliable and durable semi-automatic pistols ever designed, successfully serving the U.S. Armed Forces through World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. This example here is one of the finest duty-carry/self-defense pistols available on the market – the Staccato Model P. This is a double-stack or 2011 style pistol, with several features oriented towards the duty-carry and self-defense categories. It is chambered for the popular 9mm Parabellum cartridge and comes brand new in the box. This is a slightly custom version of the Model P with extra bells and whistles. Instead of the normal 4.4-inch bull barrel, this example has the longer 5-inch stainless threaded barrel with a DLC finish. The forward portion of the slide has the X-Series serrations while those at the rear of the slide are more conventional. The Model P is built on a size normally called the “Commander size” but unlike most Commander-sized pistols, the Model P is built to have the same slide travel as a full-size or “Gov’t” model. The extra travel gives the magazine spring more time to push the cartridges up upward from the magazine body, resulting in more reliable feeding. The Model P utilizes Dawson Precision’s tool-less recoil system for excellent reliability and easy maintenance. The slide has an optic cut, for which adaptor plates (also made by Dawson Precision, and available from Staccato’s ) can accommodate almost any pistol optic known to mankind. Some of these plates still include an integral rear sight that sits behind the installed optic, so the user always has back up just in case. The manual thumb safety is both ambidextrous and extended for easy operation. The grip safety has a beavertail for full grip protection. The frame is also equipped with a 1913-compatible rail for mounting a laser or flashlight. The bottom of the frame has a mag funnel installed for easier insertion of a magazine in a high-speed, high-adrenaline situation. The pistol comes with two stainless-steel, 17-round magazines. Spare 20-round and 26-round magazines are also manufactured. The benefit of a 1911 chambered in the 9mm Para is that it is far less expensive to shoot or practice with than one chambered in the .45 ACP. Obviously, the pistol also has a higher magazine capacity. Built for the professionals, the Model P is approved for duty by over 1,500 law enforcement agencies across the U.S., including the Texas Rangers, Houston PD, and Las Vegas Metro PD. It has also become popular among many as a self-defense/home-defense pistol thanks to its reliability, accuracy, and durability.
