Description:
NSN, .78 Caliber, 39" barrel with a very good, lightly pitted bore. This is a "TOWER" and "(Crown) / GR" marked, "India Pattern" musket that has some of the original barrel browning still present, and an area of pitting at the breech surrounding the touchhole. The lock has an overall plum-brown patina, with some silvering along the edges and on the face of the frizzen. The walnut stock, maker marked "EGG" along the belly of the butt, has numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about the old added oil finish. The brass furniture has developed a mellow ochre patina over time, with minor areas of darker tarnish scattered about the metal. A large unit marking is carved into the wood on the left side of the buttstock: "LM23Bt. No. 91" (2nd Militia Regiment & Lunenburg & 3rd Battalion, gun no. 91). An original metal ramrod, finished bright and having a deeply struck inspection stamp, is present. This is a great looking Brown Bess musket, in fine condition, that has a rarely seen Canadian militia marking. It would make a great addition to any collection. Antique
