Offered for sale is a fine example of a Colt National Match shipped in 1940 to the famed KING Gun Sight Company. This pistol is a rarity in the fact that the Colt factory letter shows this was a pistol sold to KING. You will look long and hard before you find another National Match shipped directly to them. I have only had one other that letters as such. The pistol is wearing its original Colt prewar finish. The barrel is original and marked COLT 45 AUTO Match and has the circled MB. This gun has no doubt seen some range time however the bore remains mint. The front strap is stippled. Possible something KING did at the customers request. Lastly, Take note of the Terriotry of Hawaii shipping destination, first commecial I have owned that shipped there. These grips were on the gun when I bought it and I assume they are from the period and location it was shipped to. They are a highly desired item in and of themselves.
The King catalog is NOT included and is shown only as a reference to the fact that KING offered fancy grips and front strap checkeing.
The catalog shows how expensive it was to have KING work on a gun. The cost of some of the options could nearly be as much as the gun itself.
