Description:
This 1917 double action revolver is a Colt Model 1917 D.A. 45 chambered in .45 Caliber. The front sight is a tall Patridge style blade, the rear sight is a "U" shaped groove in the top of the receiver. It has a 5½ inch barrel, a knurled knob textured ejector rod, and a smooth curved double action trigger. "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" is marked on the underside of barrel. The left side of the barrel is marked "COLT D.A. 45". The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT FA MFG CO HARTFORD CT U.S.A. / PAT'D AUG. 5, 1884 JUNE 5, 1900 JULY 4, 1905". The left side of the frame has a faded Rampant Colt. The left side of the frame to the rear of the trigger guard is marked with a "3." The butt of this fine example retains the original lanyard swivel - these are frequently found removed - plus the correct marking "U.S. ARMY MODEL 1917 No. 20802." The serial number places its date of manufacture in 1917. The Colt 1917 saw hard use in the trenches of The Great War and many were refurbished by the arsenals for duty throughout the Second World War. This fine and early example displays most of the original Colt "brushed blue" military finish. The originality of this finish is easy to discern by the fine "brush" marks in the blue. They are especially apparent around the front sight and on the frame sides. Refinished 1917s do not show these desirable, original marks. The finish is in remarkably very good condition, with some very light loss to both sides of the frame. The wood grips are in good condition, with one notable 2 cm scratch to the left panel, and with a 1 mm chip on the butt adjacent to the bottom of the frame. The bore is bright and shiny with strong rifling intact. .45 Colt
