This is a rare Finn Model 28 rifle as imported. This Finn M28 has one of the original SIG contract barrels that is counterbored. This Civil Guard rifle still has its district number of 27874. It has its original Finn 2 piece stock with wartime splice, original M28 handguard.
The barrel is clean with some shine and very distinct rifling. No pitting observed.
The bolt and metal parts under the wood line still carry arsenal grease. Civil Guard inspector marks are present as is the SA proofmark when this rifle was transferred over to Finnish Army in 1944. There were approximately 20,000 SIG rifle barrels made of the 32,512 M28 rifles produced. Finland's 1951 inventory showed 16,699 surviving examples of M28s.
The bluing is in exceptional shape. The wood is solid with no cracks, but typical military handling marks are seen. See pictures for details.
