Martial Marked US Model 1859 Sharps Rifle!
The Sharps rifle was a breechloading arm of the Civil War used by both sides but more famously by the Berdan Sharpshooters. The rifle was designed by Christian Sharps in 1848 and was produced up until 1881. This particular example is a Model 1859 Military rifle, which only a little less than 7000 were ever produced. The serial number of this Arm has been documented as being issued to the Union Veteran Volunteer Regiments sometime in the later parts of the war. It is in fine working conditon with a tight action. Has Government acceptance cartouche marks on the left hand side of the stock, serial number #55100 and still retains 90% of its rifling. A fine piece of civil war history to add to your collection today.
