INDIAN WARS SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1873 ARSENAL ALTERED SMOOTHBORE FORAGER CARBINE CIRCA 1888. 22” smoothbore .45-70 barrel with Model 1873 Carbine rear sight and bead front. 1873 dated “HIGH ARCH” early breech block. Model 1873 Carbine barrel band with stacking swivel. Altered rifle stock and butt plate. Serial numbered in the 133,xxx range of four other 1873 carbines listed as issues to the 7 th U.S. Cavalry in 1888 in vol.3, page 12 of the Springfield Research Service ‘SERIAL NUMBERS OF U.S. MARTIAL ARMS”. All original as altered and issued. Very good overall with blue and patina evenly mixed. Stock with moderate wear. Working order and excellent bore. $875.
