Special focus on custom contemporary muzzleloading rifles and black powder cartridge rifles. Description: This is an overall good condition example of the TRENTON contract Model 1861 rifled musket. It is .58, of course. These were built by the Trenton Locomotive and Machine Company in 1863-64. They produced approximately 11,500 of these. The 40" barrel is generally free of pitting, except some moderate to heavy pits around bolster and top of breech. The nipple looks good, but is frozen. I do not have proper musket wrench to mess with this. The cleanout screw is buggered. Modern replacements of both of those parts are available. The long leaf on rear sight is also missing. Bore is pitted, but shootable, with worn, but distinct rifling. The lock is very good, with sharp stampings and crisp mechanics. Stock is in good, solid condition, with typical bumps and bruises found on most 160 year old military muskets. Clean, solid buttplate. Original tulip head ramrod present. A minimal amount of work could put this musket back in the field. Priced accordingly in regards to scarcity and condition. $900 + Shipping. SOLD |
