This musket was originally built with a tubelock firing mechanism, but was converted in Liege, Belgium before being sold to the U.S. government during the American Civil War. Arms shortages were most acutely felt for the North in the early years of the war before domestic production was able to ramp up. When the Civil War broke out, these weapons were purchased by Northern arms procurers and modified to percussion in Liege before shipment to the United States. Thousands of these rifles were imported by the Union and are known to have been issued to several Missouri militia units during the Civil War. Prior to the manufacture of the Muster 1854 System Lorenz family of arms beginning in 1855, Kammerbuchsen were used to arm the first two ranks in Jäger battalions, the third rank in Grenz regiments, and some specialist troops such as engineers, pioneers, etc. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age with visible rifling. Solid stock overall, but does contain a stable crack in the toe. An even brown patina is present throughout this example. The bayonet is in good shape and measures 23 inches. This is a distinctive example of a neat Civil War import! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33-3/8 inches. Caliber: .69 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
