Description:
First Model Military Rifle Serial Number 71. Probably ranked in the top 5 of lowest serial numbered First Model Military Rifles in .44 caliber. It has a 31 5/16” barrel seven groove rifling and two spur triggerguard. None of these earlier arms have names stamped on barrel or top of frame, but marking is on upper tang that reads COLTS PATENT U.S. and has inspector’s initial “C”. Caller 44 percussion, six shoot, and fluted cylinder. First contract Hartford Rifles, all numbered below #300 are considered rarest of Hartford contract arms. This rifle has all matching serial numbers 71 on : upper tang, buttplate, frame, and underside of the barrel. This rifle has two beautiful cartouches on both sides of the wrist. Very nice bore and the action functions as it should. Rifle is missing it's rear sight. Extremely rare First Model 1855 Colt  Military Rifle offered at a reasonable price.
