Colt SAA US Artillery model, The U.S. Army recalled the 1973 Colts previously issued to troops with 7 1/2 inch barrels, then rebuilt them with 5 1/2 inch barrels reusing original 1873 model parts, thus the mismatching of serial numbers on all Artillery models.
This guns frame manufactured in 1885. Frame and barrel "DFC" inspected. Triggerguard numbered "7552". Backstrap numbered "13432". With brown leather holster marked Rock Island Arsenal in good supple condition. Case hardening colors evident in protectected areas, good Blued finish remains with excellent shiny bore. Good tight four click operation with all patent and U.S. markings crisp. Original one piece Walnut grips in very good condition showing some bumps on butt. Overall an excellent example of a U.S. marked Colt .45 Artillery revolver issued in a time of American history that saw much conflict with American Indian wars and many other calls to arms in the U.S. and abroad.
