1917 Colt Army New Service Mfg. 1920, chambered in .45 acp and wearing a 5 1/2 inch Blued barrel. These 1917 Colts were built like tanks and made to shoot the .45 acp round as accurately as any gun built to date. This model was produced by Colt in huge numbers to serve in both World Wars to supplement the lagging 1911 production. US Property marked under barrel. Smooth Walnut grips, made to use half or full moon clips to help ejection and ease of reloading in combat.
I bought my first Colt 1917 back in 1961 from Ramsted Hardware for $12.00 out of a barrel full they had. That gun with some WWII surplus ammo made striped gophers evaporate around our farm in the Red River Valley of MN.
