Description: U.S. marked Colt Single Action Army chambered in .45 Colt. The serial number (119739) dates the revolver to 1887. The included Kopec letter suggests that it was issued to the US Railway Mail Service before being stored in a state militia's arsenal, which would explain why it wasn't subjected to the Ordnance Department's recall of 1893 and converted to an Artillery model. It was probably sold on the civilian market as surplus after the First World War. It has the three-line patent date marking on the left side of the frame followed by "U.S.". Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard, back strap, and cylinder. The grip has inspector cartouches on both sides and dated 1887. The accompanying Colt factory letter lists this as one of 300 revolvers delivered to the U.S. Government inspector at the Colt plant on 5 February 1887. .45 Colt SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Barrels: 7.5 inch Item Location: Fort Worth, TX |
