Description:
- U.S. Springfield Transitional Model 1873/79 saddle ring - Trapdoor Carbine, #133389, .45-70 Gov't. cal., 21.25" barrel.
  • Has ladder rear sight with curved base.
  • Lockplate with usual markings.
  • Correct features include longer 10.5" stock comb,
    • low-arch breechblock,
    • receiver wider than barrel,
    • buttplate with swivel door for tools (none present),
    • grooved trigger.
  • Oil-stained halfstock.
    • Has saddle ring at left,
    • buttplate marked
    • "U", barrel band.
  • Mfg'd. ca. 1879-85.
  • Condition is good, the barrel exterior being generally smooth blue-brown, else gray gunmetal with scattered oxidation/discoloration having good edges and markings.
  • Stock shows use with small non structural cracks ahead of and behind the lock and at nose.
  • Action is crisp, bore shows overall moderate erosion and good rifling.
