This is a super rare mint and complete example of a Rock Island Arsenal General Officer M15 pistol, issued to Brigadier General Francis Toner. Only about a thousand of these were built at Rock Island Arsenal from existing stocks of Colt 1911 pistols in 1970s for issue to US General Officers by shortening the slide and giving the gun a very attractive high polished finish on the sides.
At retirement, generals had an opportunity to purchase the issued gun from the Army. Very few did, making these pistols very rare.
This particular example is mint, and appears unfired after leaving the arsenal.
Brigadier General Francis Toner had an illustrious carrer with US army and commanded C - company of the 227th aviation battalion which saw a lot of action in Vietnam War. Upon retirement, the general purchased the pistol from the army. The copy of the sales receipt was obtained from the Rock Island Arsenal Museum confirming the above. The gun is the most complete example of the M15 that I had ever encountered. It comes with the original belt, holster, a leather attachment for the belt, double magazine pouch, cleaning rods and supplies and the original shipping label. All appear to be in the original plastic bags. The gun comes with 3 matching magazines ! A printout about the history of the 227th aviation battalion is included as well.
This is a highly desirable complete US General pistol set with an incredible investment potential as well.
