Description:
This is a rare Winchester 1887 Lever Action "riot" shotgun in 12 gauge serial no. 18446 made in 1888. It has a 24" barrel and a 22.5 " magazine tube with an 8 round capacity. This 1887 is in very fine condition and excellent mechanical condition. There is approximately 85-90% blueing showing and the case colors are vivid as the photos will confirm. These riot shotguns were carried by American Express and Wells Fargo cartage drivers across the old west getting shipments to their customers safely. I have had this one in my collection for over 30 years and there are no cracks in the wood with only a few dings and scratches as you might expect from use. The Winchester 1887 was fitted with a screw-in choke at some point and it does not detract from the looks or function of the gun. When these Winchester 1887 riot shotguns come up for , they are few in number.
