Arrieta is among the finest Spanish shotguns produced in the true Basque traditions. Michael McIntosh praises the Arrieta in his book “Best Guns” and carried his Arrieta afield as much as any other gun he owned. The Basque makers were famous for making quality “copies” of other guns like the Holland and Holland sidelock this Arrieta mimics. With a five pin sidelock action, intercepting safety sears, auto safety, removable striker discs, gas vents, hand-detachable sideplates, rolled edge trigger guard, articulated front trigger, beaded fences, cocking indicators, hand-filed sculpted frame, beetle back safety, 90% coverage Purdey rose and scroll engraving (done by hand, of course), coin finished action, stocked to the fences, drop points, checkered butt, perfectly struck chopper lump barrels, … you have ALL OF THE BEST GUN FEATURES AT A FRACTION OF THE PRICE of a British built gun! Arrieta closed its doors for a few years and is now back in operation having joined forces with Arrizabalaga, Spain’s preeminent gunmaker. They are available new and special-order here in the states from William Larkin Moore, one of the premier European gun sellers in the USA. A new Arrieta set up like this Model 578 with this engraving would cost more than $40,000 in today’s market. THIS GUN WAS BUILT IN 1999 AND REMAINS IN NEW, UNFIRED CONDITION, WITH NO PRIMER MARKS AROUND THE FIRING PIN HOLES, NO POWDER RESIDUE, FACTORY POLISH MARKS AT BREECH END OF BARRELS, AND 100% FACTORY FINISHES ON ALL METAL AND WOOD. The engraving on the barrels, action, and trigger guard still retain the sharp hooks from the gravers cuts. Another nicety is this is a “Wingshooters, LTD” gun, imported from Spain by Jack Jansma of Wingshooting Adventures right here in Grand Rapids, MI. Built with 26 ¾” barrels choked M/F and a length of pull of 14 ¾” to a checkered butt, the gun weighs just 5lbs. 14oz. and balances to perfection dead on the hinge pin. It is a very rare opportunity to find an Arrieta that is NEW AND UNFIRED at a price almost everybody can afford.
