WINCHESTER 1873 FACTORY ENGRAVED SILVER PLATED 38-40 24" BARREL CIRCA 1879 WITH FACTORY LETTER SERIAL NUMBER CORRESPONDING TO 1879. ACCORDING TO THE FACTORY LETTER, IT LEFT THE FACTORY NOVEMBER 17TH, 1879. THE RIFLE FEATURES AN OCTAGON BARREL AND SILVER TRIM, AND FACTORY ENGRAVED IN 1879, WAS AN ADDITIONAL 2.50 TO HAVE DONE ACCORDING TO THE LETTER. THE RECEIVER IS A SECOND MODEL AND FEATURES FLORAL SCROLL ENGRAVING WITH VIGNETTES OF AN ELK ON THE LEFT SIDE AND FLORAL SCROLL COVERAGE ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE ENGRAVING CONTINUES TO THE BARREL, FOREARM CAP, AND THE BUTT PLATE, AND ARE SILVER PLATED. THE BARREL AND MAGAZINE TUBE ARE A TYPICAL WINCHESTER HIGH POLISH BLUED FINISH. THE FITTED DOVETAIL BLADE FRONT SIGHT AND REAR LADDER SIGHT ARE ORIGINAL TO THE GUN. THE UPPER TANG IS MARKED "MODEL 1873," AND THE LOWER TANG IS MARKED WITH THE SERIAL NUMBER BEHIND THE LEVER CATCH. THE BUTTSTOCK IS FITTED WITH A CRESCENT TRAPDOOR BUTT PLATE WITH THE ORIGINAL THREE-PIECE CLEANING ROD. SOME HANDLING MARKS ARE PRESENT IN MECHANICALLY EXCELLENT CONDITION.
