Description:
Very sharp, high condition Winchester Model 1886 Deluxe rifle in 40-65 caliber.
S/N 70975 made in 1892.
24" Octagon barrel with full length magazine tube.
Lots of nice and consistent original blue remains on the barrel and mag tube, with no visible off color undertoning.
There are still very evident and attractive case colors showing on the sides of receiver, stronger in protected areas.
Beautiful 3X wood set with some nice sunburst grain pattern and clear checkering panels.
Steel shotgun style buttplate with widow's peak heel. Set trigger.
The tang is stamped with an assembly number and three Xs. This assembly number is also stamped and matching on the inner wood and inside tip of buttplate.
Original and correct period sights consist of a dovetailed German silver blade up front, a Winchester sporting rear, and a Lyman tang sight.
The bore is very good and bright with consistent rifling throughout it's length. There is evidence of some shallow, patchy erosion in spots toward the muzzle end, but nothing of any real significance.
Crisp and flawless mechanics. (Including the set trigger function).
This is a difficult to find, genuine and very fine condition '86 Deluxe offered at an affordable price.
Comes complete with a Cody Firearms Museum letter of provenance.
