This is a practically unissued carbine that has some mild silvering at the muzzle, with the balance of the barrel retaining nearly all of the original blue finish. The two-piece frame and hammer likewise have nearly all of their original bright color case-hardening remaining, with the stock ferrule and action locking spring retaining nearly all of the original bright fire bluing. The walnut forend and buttstock are likewise in excellent shape, with only some very minor handling marks scattered about the original military oil finish, and a crisp cartouche on the left side of the wrist. Even the buttplate retains a large portion of the original color case-hardening, with lots of fire blue still visible on the screw heads. This is a fabulous example of a Smith Cavalry Carbine, and would make a great addition to any collection of US Civil War long arms. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
