Not to be confused with Westley Richards & Co.'s proprietary .425 Magnum Express introduced around 1907, as the ".425 Express" is an entirely differnt cartridge. According to CARTRIDGE COLLECTOR : The .425 Express cartridge was designed in 1987 for African hunts by Cameron Hopkins and Whit Collins along with a prototype rifle for this patron John French. The initial model of the weapon for the .425 Express cartridge was a Ruger mod. 77 with bolt lock. The cartridge is based on a slightly shortened .300 Winchester Magnum case. Based on an original DWM Argentino 1909 Model 98 Mauser action with a 3-postion M70 type safety, custom one-piece bottom metal with a straddle floorplate and inside-the-bow release. Reportedly, the cartridge shoots a .423" caliber, 400gr bullet in the 2,400 fps range.
