MINTY CONDITION, RARE LATE MODEL 63 .22 LR WITH GROOVED RECEIVER TOP FOR SCOPE MOUNTING, #170XXX, MADE THE LAST YEAR OF PRODUCTION IN 1958. Only the last of these was made with the grooved receiver top and are very hard to find now. This one appears to have simply been in storage for decades. It still has some age-hardened packing grease on parts. When I got this one the operating rod was extremely stiff the first time I pushed it in as it was coated with this dried grease. It is still visible on the rod as well as on the bolt inside the side of the receiver. I didn't attempt to clean it. Overall retains about all the blue- even on the butt plate. Has the very late and scarce synthetic forend cap only used on the very last of production. Wood is excellent with only two horizontal small hairline cracks coming forward from the receiver on the right side- very minor and no doubt just stress cracks from being stored in a dry environment (if the forend was removed and the inch long hairline cracks glued from the inside they'd be about invisible). As is the cracks are hardly worth mentioning and barely visible. otiginal sights, matching numbers, crisp markings. One of the last of the classiest auto .22 Winchester ever made. $1595.
