Description:
Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 lever action rifle featuring a 26" octagon barrel in 40-65 W.C.F. caliber, crescent buttplate, steel forend cap and magazine tube attached to the barrel by a small dovetailed band. The varnished deluxe grade wood pistol grip stock is adorned with an ebony insert and checkering. The roll stamp on the top barrel flat read " MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A, along with the 40-65 W.C.F caliber identifier. The patent dates of Oct. 14 1884, and Jan. 20 1885 can be found on the lower tang along with the serial number number. The rifle features the standard adjustable Buckhorn style rear sights and bladed front sight. The front sight has been modified to include a small notch. The overall condition of the rifle is good. The wood has acquired a dark oiled patina and shows signs of use with minor cosmetic dings and nicks. The barrel, receiver, and metal hardware has developed a light brown patina with areas of very minor surface pitting. The condition of the bore is good with visible rifling and somewhat sharp lands and grooves.
