SER #O57384, 410 bore musket, 25 1/2” barrel with a bright bore showing some mild frosting. The metal surfaces of this shotgun are a relatively even mix of arsenal reapplied dull blue and gray-brown patina showing some scattered light oxidation staining and remnants of minor pitting beneath the finish. The right side socket shows softened original markings that are mostly intact and indicate and original production date of 1917 while the left side shows Ishapore refurbishment date of 1931. The walnut stocks remain in about fair condition as refurbished and cleaned long ago showing scattered dings and arsenal repairs with a few lengthy repaired cracks along the right side below the action and tip of the handguard. The buttstock is a bit shy at the heel and the fore-stock is mismatched. The bolt and nosecap are mismatching and the action seems to function well mechanically.
This rifle has NOT been importer chamber reamed to accept 2.5in .410 US made shot shells. its original chambering is .303 British straight wall brass cartridges still currently available from SARCO
