Incredible condition Westley Richards solid frame bolt action "light rifle" in 318 Accelerated Express caliber. Ultra Rare!
S/N LT 41243 made in 1922.
Truly remarkable condition and incredible workmanship throughout with many special features incorporated by true and patient craftsmen.
This very fine rifle is based on a standard length Mauser action with a 3 position flag safety.
5 shot magazine. Hinged floorplate with smooth lever release.
22" barrel with an excellent bore showing very pronounced rifling with no discrepancies. All mechanical functions are excellent, butter smooth and working properly.
Weight is just a fraction over 7 lbs. according to my floor scale.
Pristine and deep rust blued finish throughout. The replaceable bolt knob has a checkered flat on its underside.
The wood also remains in superb condition with several special features such as: 13 3/4" LOP, case colored trap door pistol grip cap, horn forend tip, factory swivel stud along toe line (with a matching stud brazed to the barrel), blank silver stock oval, trap door buttplate, etc. There does appear to be a descreet spliced wood repair immediately under the bolt release lever that is the length of the lever and about 1/4" deep.
The sighting system is of extreme high quality and cosists of a combination fine bead and miniature flip up large beaded bright white "night sight" up front. These are covered by a WR patented, knurled and hinged hood protector that hinges back for access to the flip up night sight, then snaps positively back into place or normal use. Very cool. The elaborate rear sight is mounted to an island ramp and has one standing and four folding spring loaded platinum lined leaves, for ranges from 100-500 yards.
An absolutely amazing rifle that really showcases the quality of days gone by.
