Developed in the 1930s and 1950s, the Hercules Pen Gun was designed for use with prepared gas rounds, blank rounds loaded with riot agents, and live ammo, with rapidly swappable barrels depending on intention. Constructed chiefly from aluminum alloy, the pen gun has an overall length of 4 7/8 inches, with the Hercules address and model markings on the body, a knurled cocking knob for the spring loaded firing pin assembly, and a frame notch safety. The barrel is aluminum, unrifled, and marked for gas rounds only, with a muzzle diameter of .373.
