Payment Types Accepted: USPS Money Order, Money Order, or Certified Check Description: This is a Sharps Model 1874 that was ordered in the infamous .50 cal. cartridge. As per the letter from Dr. Labowskie, the owner of the Sharps factory records, this rifle (SN: 157400, matching on tang and barrel), was delivered to Schuyler, Hartley, and Graham of NYC on December 22nd, 1877. The configuration, which it retains, was documented as .50 cal. (no specific case length documented, but appears to be 50-1 3/4 - aka 50-70), 28 inch barrel, and double set trigger. The weight was listed as 11 lbs. 4 oz., and cost “$42 minus 20 + 10%”. The wood was listed as having oil-finished stocks. As for the current condition of the rifle, it is good, but has clearly seen a lot of use. The metal has scattered patches of light pitting, and the wood has some bumps and bruises, with there being a period repair by one of the screws in the forearm. Oddly, the tang is slightly bent upwards - possibly an accident while out hunting. Mechanically, the rifle is excellent. The action and double set triggers work perfectly, and the rifling is quite good for it's age. If you have any questions, or would like any other photos, do not hesitate to ask. The payment methods listed are the only ones that I will accept. SOLD Antique: Yes |
