"Serial No. 33877, made in 1879, .44-40, 28" octagonal barrel marked “WINCHESTER’S-REPEATING-ARMS. NEW HAVEN.CT./KINGS-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29.1866. OCTOBER 16.1860". Forward of receiver has no caliber stamp indicating rifle is in 44-40. Bore is bright with scattered oxidation visible in the grooves, rifling remains strong. Metal has turned to a brown/grey patina with traces of original blue visible in protected areas. 2nd Model dust cover is present, tang is marked “Model 1873" Brass carrier is unmarked. Wood has expected nicks, dings and scratches visible, with wood loss noted right side of the forearm. Set trigger and action both function correctly.
