Description:
SCARCE 1909 U.S. ARMY .45 COLT CALIBER NEW SERVICE REVOLVER, #44XXX, MADE 1911. These were beautifully fit and finished revolvers for the U.S. Government. Unlike later military arms, the 1909 had the high polish Colt blue of the time. Many of these were later arsenal refinished and even parkerized. This one is in all original condition including the smooth walnut grips each having the inspection stamp "RAC" on the bottom and are pencil serial numbered on the inside matching the frame, yoke and butt. Sharp U.S. Army 1909 markings by the original lanyard ring on the butt. Still retains the UNITED STATES PROPERTY stamping on the bottom of the barrel- this often removed. All sharp markings including the RAC inspector stamp on the barrel bottom, right side of the frame and rear of the cyinder. Shows fine blue with normal holster wear. The barrel has the usual gray stripe down the sides and the front strap and back strap are gray from handling. There is still good blue on the butt much of the frame with edge wear and cylinder also with edge/holster wear. The stylized "C" rampant Colt stamping on the left side of the frame is sharp and clear. The action is extremely crisp and tight with no play in the cylinder when the hammer is let part way down (when these Colts lock up). The bore is bright and excellent. Still some good fire blue on the hammer back and trigger sides. Grips are fine and fit perfectly with no chips or cracks. This is a gun that was issued and used, but well taken care of. A hard to find and most desirable New Service variation.
