I am selling it as shown in the photos Description: A genuine Savage Model 720 riot shotgun is one of the most elusive Second World War production shotguns on the market today. Second only, perhaps, only to a WWII Ithaca Model 37 trench gun. Many collectors are not aware of the true scarcity of the variant. There are many cut-down examples on the market but, fortunately, it is easy to spot these as compared to some other types of bogus riot and tench guns. Its serial number is 70690 that falls nicely in the observed range which is approximatley 69400 to 88250. Since this is one of the earlrier ones, it has a commercial-grade-polished blue finish, later examples were brushed. There were no parkerized finishes. The receiver has an engraved game scene corroborarting that the weapon is indeed an earlier model. As production continued, the game scenes were eliminated." It has the small U.S. flaming bomb and P proof mark on the left side, the barrel has a small flaming bomb and P. Inspection stamps were not applied to the stocks. The barrel is 20 inch cylinder bore and the asterisk-like markings *** that denotes cylinder bore. THE BARREL IS NOT SERIALLY NUMBERED however it does have the bead-on-ramp front sight (see page 146 of Bruce Canfield's Complete Guide to United States Military Shotguns. Other barrel markings consisted of MODEL 720, and SAVAGE/Savage Arms Corporation/Utica, New York,U.S.A. It has a black plastic buttplate, unmarked and no swing swivels. The stock has been repaired on both sides between the tangs as indicated by the pictures. Mechanically excellent, bright, shiny bore. We have lots of pictures of this beauty SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Shotgun Gauge: 12 Gauge Manufacturer: Savage Model: 720 Barrel Length: 20 inches |
