I am selling it as shown in the photos Description: A superb example of the Savage Model 720 12 gauge shotgun in training configuration in very good condition. It is reported that 11,527 of the guns were made in 1943 with another 3,000 delivered in 1944. The observed serial number range is 69,400 to 88,250, the sn on this one is 74609, this gun is beleived to be produced later as it has a brushed blue finish with less polishing evident on the metal. And, it does not have the "game scene" on the receiver which corroborates it was produced later. The martial markings it has are the "U.S." flaming bomb and "P" proof marks on the left side of the receiver. The left side of the barrel is marked with a small "flaming bomb" and "P". The 26” barrel comes with an excellent bore and has the "Based-n-ramp" front sight and has the **** (four astericks) appropriately indicating it is improved cylinder/full choke according to Bruce Canfield. Note too that the serial numbers on the barrel and receiver match. Wood is good, but there is a crack on the inside of the forearm that does not affect the exterior. There is no checkeirng on the the wood as those were used up on earlier production guns, again indicating that thisis a later production model. The buttplate is pastic, there are no sling swivels. No import marks. Special thanks to Bruce Canfield and Joe Poyer expertise on military shotguns in their respective books on the subject of which much of their data is shared here and greatly appreciated. We have several more pictures of this beast! SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Shotgun Gauge: 12 Gauge Manufacturer: Savage Model: 720 Barrel Length: 26 inches |
