Description:
Listed is a Savage 99-R prewar (1932 thru 1949) mfg in 1939 with serial number 374620 in 300 sav caliber. This Savage 99 R rifle has the 24" tapered medium weight barrel with a clean exceptional bore, the rounded forearm with the double grooved near the tip. The Savage model R was the first 99 rifle made without the Schnoble forearm. The forearm and buttstock are real clean and without any breaks splits or cracks in the wood after 85+ years of service, the metal Savage steel corrugated buttplate is correct and proud to the buttstock. The front and rear sights appear to be correct with the elevator missing on the rear sight to accommodate the weaver tipoff mounts and early Weaver K3 with clear glass displaying a post and crosshair reticle (Elpaso, Texas mfg.). The barrel bluing is 95% with normal handling marks showing and the receiver is still a strong 95% bluing with just sharp edge and receiver bottom showing slight fade from use. The case colors on the lever are vivid as seen in the attached photos and there are 6 very small scribed lines on the lower tang near the left side of the trigger, you have to look closely to examine/ see last photo???? A outstanding and well maintained Savage 99-R prewar that has persevered over the years with a Weaver scope and rings added to better view the game being hunted.
