Description:
An Early & Very Rare U.S. Civil War Military Prototype Of A Long Barrel "U.S. Army Model 1862 Signal Pistol" In Fine Untouched Condition. Serial # 627, all matching numbers including the grips which are stamped on the inside. The very rare pistol has fine metal, brass and markings. It is clearly marked "U.S., A.J.M., ARMY SIGNAL/PISTOL,1862" on the brass butt of the grip. This rare prototype was made to actually shoot a flare up into the air to be more effective and be seen easier. It would also give the soldier firing it a better chance of living as he would not have to stand in position while the flare was going off. The difference between this gun and a standard one is that this has a heavy 5 1/2 inch long iron barrel with a brass sleeve around it. The iron muzzle of the barrel matches the hammer, lever, and trigger perfectly in condition. The brass sleeve also matches the rest of the pistol in condition and color. It has a fine and intricate sight on the end of the barrel. The original numbered walnut grips are fine throughout with no chips or cracks in them. All iron screws are good. it has a fine and tight action. This Is A Very Rare U.S. Civil War Military Prototype Of A Long Barrel "U.S. Army Model 1862 Signal Pistol" That Might Be The Only One That Was Made As A Prototype For The Army!
