Description:
Here is an outstanding and very rare second-style 1851 Navy powder flask. This goes with the second-style Navy Colt or the early third-style Navy Colt. It is also often found with the double-cased Dragoon. This is the only Navy powder flask manufactured with the pattern on both sides. The die work is extremely fine and detailed with the best workmanship in the finest tradition of Colts Patent. The flask is attributed to Dixon and Sons. It has the tapered, slanted charger with a stepped, tapered shoulder at the base. It has a beautiful, even brown patina on the copper bottom. It has two small handling dings which I have pictured. The top, spout and spring all work exactly as they should. The protected area around the spring still has most of the gold gilt and the brass top has a beautiful mustard patina. The seams are perfect all the way around.
