Description:
Built in 1932 at the pinnacle of "between the wars" gun making this exceptional J.P. Sauer Model 18 20ga is easily the finest Sauer we have offered in a very long time. Gun built with 26" Krupp barrels that have relief engraved and machined top rib. Barrels are engraved at breech ends in fine scroll. Splinter forend with ebony tip is nicely checkered and has polished and gold washed internals and engraved Deeley latch release. Rebated and scalloped case hardened frame is fantastically full coverage scroll and game scene engraved in incredible detail and quality as seen in the photos. The game scene on the bottom of the gun is particularly striking with large detailed pointer. 12 animals in total!!! Frame has crossbolt locking mechanism and sculpted fences & sideclips. Semi-pistol grip buttstock is very nicely figured and terminates with its original checkered horn buttplate. Gun comes with a research packet from Griffin and Howe identifying it as found today and discussing its original sale to a prominent NJ hunter in 1932 from the Morristown, NJ area.

Gun remains in superb original condition with nearly all of the original wood metal finishes remaining. There is a tiny grain separation at the forend iron which we will take care of prior to delivery should the buyer wish for us to do so. Bores are brilliant and shiny. Mechanics are perfect.

This is the second to top J.P. Sauer cataloged at the time of production and the only thing separating this gun from a "Meisterwerk" is gold inlays. This example is impeccable for condition and quality and is priced at $19,500 plus shipping to your FFL. Please dont hesitate to contact me with any questions or reasonable offers at (704) 280-2382 or via PM on this site.
