Description:
Very fine and untouched example of the highly desirable Model 1886 in 45-70 caliber.
S/N 121556 made in 1900.
26" round barrel with full length mag tube.
The original sight package consists of a German silver front and Winchester sporting rear, along with an excellent Lyman folding tang sight.
The original bluing is well retained over most, showing good color and only typical light wear.
There are faint but present case colors remaining on the hammer, lever, and crescent buttplate.
The wood is also quite nice with original finish and no cracks, having never been sanded or refinished. There are some scattered light handling marks only.
The bore is VG-Excellent, shiny and well rifled with just a touch of oxidation midway. I would rate 9 out of 10 given its age and by comparison to what is usually encountered.
All mechanical functions are tight, crisp, and functioning properly.
As expected, not perfect after 124 years of service, but completely unmolested and one of the best you will see offered.
