New lower Price! Now $2800.Recognizing Ugartechea's tradition of quality, venture capitalists have revived the company. They will probably produce fine guns, but none of them will be completely hand crafted due to modern costs of production. All the work on this shotgun is skilled handwork. In his book, Spanish Best: The Fine Shotguns of Spain, (a must-read) Gray's Journal shooting editor, Terry Weiland, highlights the collaboration between John Hollinger's Aspen Outfitting Company and the Ugartechea family. This higher grade boxlock game gun is the result. It displays upgraded walnut (in this case, a darker English style hand-rubbed oil refinishing took place), a unique panel behind the frame, finer checkering, a sculpted action back, and increased attention to fitting and trigger pull. It is said 28 gauges, like 16 gauges, with their balanced loads, possess a versatility in the field limited only by the shooter's skills. I am not a crack shot, but have successfully hunted pheasants in winter with this gun. It is all about the load. It must be noted, this shotgun is true cast-on for left-handed shooters. Despite left-handers consisting of 15% of the population, we do not see 15% of all shotguns offered with cast-on. In that, it is relatively rare. This collaboration made for the American market in 1998 resulted in an affordable gun with the great balance and handling capability of a more expensive shotgun. If this resilient and soulful gun fits, wear it.
