About Us: Estate Sale of Unique Collection

Description:
This Listing from a Family Collection of Shooting Sports Enthusiasts is a Used, Highly Unusual Circa 1952-53; Serial # S 9047XX; Smith & Wesson Pre-Model Number 38/44 N-Frame .38 Special Revolver that has the King’s Gun Sight Company of San Francisco full target treatment: "S&W – KING SUPER TARGET" designation on the Raised, Ventilated, Serrated Matte Rib – which extends across the backstrap to the Windage and Elevation Click-Adjustable / White Outline Rear Target Sight. The Rib creates a Level Sighting Plane over the Pinned, Slightly Tapered Factory Barrel marked “SMITH & WESSON” on the Left Side and “.38 S&W SPECIAL CTG.” on the Right Side. Unusual features include No Ejector Shroud on an otherwise properly marked and matching serial number S&W Factory N-Frame .38 Special Barrel. Patent Dates on the top are illegible under the King’s Rib. Non-standard (e.g., 6 instead of 6½ -Inch) Barrel Lengths have been alluded to (according to Supica) but not documented. Even if King shortened it by ½-Inch – that still leaves unexplained the absent underlug on a matching serial-number barrel. The M&P .44, .45, and .455 Revolvers had such barrels – but not .38’s, to our knowledge. (Please email the Estate/Trust secretary directly if we are mistaken: robert.coffeynetzero). Also, the Right Side of the Frame carries the Single Line Pre-1948 Address, which was supposed to have been phased-out by (approximately) 1950. The Undercut Front Sight has King’s Trademark Light-Reflecting Mirror inset into the rib; a Red Insert was added later. Also present is King’s Wide, Fine-Checkered Hammer that is Offset to the Left to facilitate rapid single action cocking – stamped on its Left Side “KING COCKEYED HAMMER”. There is an unmarked Trigger Shoe. What look like Herrett's (or less likely, Roper) High-Grade / Matching-Grain / Border Checkered Target Grips Wrap-Around the Frontstrap and leave a Partly Exposed Backstrap. Back- and Front-Straps are Smooth. The Cylinder carries a Matching Serial Number. We estimate this unusual and fully serviceable revolver as being in approximately 80 Percent Modern Condition with moderate bluing wear for its age. The bore is excellent; a cylinder ring is visible as are mild-moderate chamber markings ahead of the case mouth. Note: Heat discoloration is visible on the left side of the frame above (and within) the trigger guard, which corresponds to repair/replacement of the trigger pin – likely in the remote past. Condition is best judged from the photos, so please ask any questions or request additional information before purchase as this item will be troublesome and costly to return owing to CA re-registration and other regulations. Any refunds will be minus our actual shipping cost and FFL fees (greater than $150) after buyer pays return shipping. The listed price Includes Insured Air Shipping from a CA FFL Dealer to yours. Payment is by Money Order, Bank (Certified) Check or Personal Check (held 2-3 days). We are the Estate Executor and Trustee, not a dealer, and cannot handle credit card or electronic payments. This item is subject to prior sale.
