Mossberg Model Targo - 340TR - Smoothbore .22 Bolt Action Rifle - Monte Carlo walnut pistol grip style stock and forend with butt plate. 24 In. long barrel with adj. open rear sight and a front bead sight. Barrel drilled to accept .22 shotshell choke adapter, .22 LR rifled adapter and a 5 in. long rifled barrel extension. 7 round clip style magazine will accept .22 shotshells and .22 LR ammo. Bore is clean and bright . Barrel and receiver are retaining approx. 95% bluing. New soft sleeve included. The Targo shooting game was first introduced in early 1940 to 1941 with a variety of .22 smooth bore models designed to shoot miniture plastic clay's it came with rifled adapter to allow the rifle to be used as a target rifle as well to shoot standard .22 LR ammo. Production was discontinued during WWII. Re- introduced in the1960's with the models 320 single shot and the 340TR with less that 2000 being produced. Production ceased in 1968. The game proved to be far too hard in the fact that the .22 shot shells were not powerful enough to break the plastic targets. The rifled insert does provide fair accuracy when used as a target rifle . We added a 5 In. long rifled barrel extenion to provide a bit more accuracy when used as a target rifle. The overall condition is excellent. These rifles are extremely scarce. Fantastic find for Mossberg collectors.
