This is a One Original Owner (the first grown-up rifle of an eventual collector) Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .270 Winchester Caliber; purchased new in ~1954 from a local department store; Serial Number: 294, 3XX; and fired for hunting & annual sight-in until it was put in the safe for the past few decades. It comes with a Weaver Steel-Tube K-4 Scope in Redfield Mounts and has Period Sling Swivels (not QD). To our knowledge, although we could me mistaken, the Open/Iron Sights are original, minus a front sight hood if one used to be present. The Receiver is Factory Drilled and Tapped for a Receiver Sight; the Buttplate is Checkered, Niedner-Style Aluminum with much of the black anodized finish gone. The Wood and Metal Finish show Moderate Honest Wear for 70 years of age; bluing wear is evident is along edges of the muzzle, floorplate, trigger guard. The Buttstock has one crack ~3 inches long, behind the right side of the tang, and repaired long ago. The majority of the wood finish remains despite numerous small blemishes, scratches and dings from use and storage. The bore of the 22-Inch Barrel (which does not photograph well) is excellent to the eye under flashlight illumination, having been fired a few times per year until going into storage. Condition is best judged by the photos as we are not dealers or experts; our conservative condition estimate is approximately in the 80 – 85 Percent Range.
