Beautiful custom rifle by a well respected gunsmith in Oregon named Mix who was distantly related to Tom Mix the cowboy actor of fame. I could not find anything on theabout him, too long ago.
I met him and bought these two rifles from his personal collection. He was dying of emphysema and had sold all his shop. See my other listings. This is a very exceptional gun made on a post war FN Mauser action. Bohler-Stahl ribbed octagonal barrel made in Austria. A beautiful piece of work. Fireams Intl back in the day sourced FN mauser actions, for which they are well known. Rare today.
He did all his stock work. This, as far as I can ascertain, is tiger maple, stained walnut. Peruse the fine checkering on the stock, butt, and cap. Art work.
Timmey triger. Buehler rings and bases (those of a certain age will remember)
In 240 Wby Mag. Probably the most versatile of all the Weatherby calibers.
Bluing and metalwork is perfect, as is the lumber. Note that the gunsmith made the stock with a palm swell. A nice touch.
I mounted a new Swarovski Habicht 3-12 x50 scope. The optic alone cost on the order of $2K.
He maintained that his eyesight had gotten so poor he never fired these guns. I have never chambered a round. I am selling all my collection due to my own poor health, and age. See my feedback.
